Prepare for
snow clearing.
A practical checklist for Etobicoke homeowners: make the routes clear, identify what snow could hide and agree how the property will be accessed.
Jump to the quick checklist
Walk the routes before snow hides them.
Walk from the driveway to each entrance you use. Include side passages, rear doors, steps and the route to your bins. Note where gates swing open, where the path narrows and which areas are shared with a neighbour. These details are easier to show while the ground is visible.
Tell us which routes you want included, rather than assuming every paved area is covered. If a rear entrance or shared section matters to you, identify it in the estimate request so the clearing boundary can be agreed.
Make a short list of hidden obstacles.
Move portable planters, toys, loose mats, hoses and decorations out of the planned clearing area where practical. Flag fixed features that cannot move: low edging, uneven paving, irrigation heads, garden lights and exposed cables. A wide photo plus a close-up is more useful than a description such as “watch the corner”.
Keep electric-vehicle charging cables out of the clearing route. Explain where the charger and vehicle normally sit, and follow the equipment manufacturer’s instructions when handling or storing the cable. Do not leave a cable where snow can hide it, or assume the crew will disconnect or move charging equipment.
Agree where the snow can stay.
Clover moves snow to suitable agreed areas on the property; we do not haul it away. Identify a possible pile area and show nearby entrances, gates and paths that need to remain usable. If space is tight, raise that before booking rather than leaving the decision until the first visit.
Keep proposed snow storage away from public travel routes. Toronto’s guidance says snow from private property must not be pushed onto City roads, sidewalks or laneways. See the City’s snow-clearing guidance. A preferred pile location still needs to be reviewed for your property.
Plan vehicle and gate access.
Show where vehicles usually park and whether they leave room to reach the agreed clearing areas. Discuss an access arrangement that works for your household before service begins. Keep movable items out of that route and tell us if the layout changes during the season.
For a side or rear path, explain how the gate is opened and whether snow can prevent it from swinging. You can describe an access issue in the enquiry without uploading keys, access codes or other sensitive details in photos.
Take a useful set of estimate photos.
Start with one wide view of the driveway showing its edges and usual parking arrangement. Add each walkway, flight of steps and entrance you want cleared. Include the side passage or gate if it provides access, followed by the proposed snow-pile area and close-ups of obstacles.
Tell us the property address, approximate driveway size and which photographed areas are included in your request. Photos and videos are optional. Avoid capturing people, vehicle plates or private documents where possible; only include what helps explain the work. You can send the essential enquiry first and add optional details if you have them ready.
Check the plan before the first visit.
Review the agreed clearing areas, snow placement, access arrangement, snowfall trigger and whether salting is included. Use the snow-removal service page for Clover’s season, trigger and timing details rather than relying on this preparation checklist as an agreement.
Public-sidewalk maintenance and private service are separate. Check the City of Toronto’s current sidewalk-clearing information for local responsibilities; do not assume a private snowfall trigger covers every situation outside your home. If leaves or garden debris still obstruct the areas you need ready, discuss fall cleanup separately.
Before-snow checklist
- List the driveway, paths, steps and entrances to include.
- Move portable obstacles and identify fixed features.
- Keep charging cables clear of the work area.
- Discuss snow storage, parked vehicles and gate access.
- Take wide photos and close-ups of relevant obstacles, if useful.
- Confirm the scope and service options before booking.
